The application period is now open for the annual Rotary Club of Gettysburg scholarship program. Scholarships are available to students at Fairfield, Biglerville, and Gettysburg Area high schools, as well as private and homeschooled students living in those districts. Funding is available for vocational training and post-secondary academic majors.
Applications are available in high school guidance offices as well as online at www.gettysburgrotary.org. The deadline for all submissions is April 5. Selected applicants will be asked to participate in an interview with Rotary Club Scholarship Committee members in late April, and awards will be presented at the May 13 Rotary Club meeting at the Gettysburg Hotel.
The Rotary Club’s scholarship program traces its origin back to 1956 when a bequest by former club president Charles Eicholtz provided initial money for a scholarship fund. Those funds have been added to from time to time and today those invested funds allow the club to continue to make awards each year to outstanding students.
From 2018 to 2019, The Rotary Club of Gettysburg has doubled the amount awarded to local students. The club will distribute $8,000 in scholarships thanks to sponsors of its annual lobster dinner: Adams County Winery, Dr. Jody Dickey, Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Gettysburg Pediatrics, and Adams Electric Cooperative.

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg Lobster Dinner will be held Saturday, May 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gettysburg Fire Hall, 35 North Stratton Street. The dinner includes a whole lobster, shrimp, corn on the cob, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage. Tickets are available from any Rotarian, through www.gettysburgrotary.org, at the Gettysburg Times office, or at Battlefield Brew Works.
