Rotary. Club of Gettysburg Board Meeting

HACC Room 126

Present: Bill Braun, Alex Hayes, Deb Geesey, Brad Hoch, Shannon Harvey, Sandra Leathery, Steve Fill

Secretary Report (Alex Hayes)
  • Approve Minutes from December 19, 2018 board meeting. (Hoch made the motion, Harvey seconded, all approved)
  • Accept resignations from Jane North, Cheri Uhrinek, Karla Trout, Sarah Goulet (Braun, Hoch, unanimous)
  • Alex recommended that we donate $100 to the Rotary Foundation in Al Crosby’s name in recognition of his time as treasurer. He will prepare a presidential citation for Bill to award him.(Hoch, Geesey, all unanimous)
Treasurer report (Steve Fill)
  • Steve presented the treasurer report for December 2018. He noted that revenue was slow in December. (Geesey, Leathery, unanimous)
  • The board discussed arrears. Board members have agreed to contact Rotarians who owe $1,000 and discuss payment with them. There are four current members in this category.
  • There are some former members who owe money. Alex has sent them account statements. If they are not paid, he will zero out their accounts and make a note that they left owing money. If they reapply, they will asked to clear their accounts before being reinstated.
President-elect (Brad Hoch)
  • Brad has submitted his slate to the membership and it was approved. He was unsuccessful at finding a membership chair and plans on serving in that role and using the club as a committee of the whole. He will occasionally spend five minutes at a club meeting discussing membership and solicit ideas from members.
  • Brad discussed the Rotary Lobster Dinner sponsorships. He noted that it is hard to solicit sponsorships for a general charity fund. He proposed that we put all sponsorship money towards scholarships and keep the lobster dinner proceeds in community fund. Since we have only received one $1,000 sponsorship in the past for the lobster dinner, this will not severely impact our bottom line for community fund. (Hoch, Leathery, unanimous)
Vocational Service (Shannon Harvey)
  • Two Gettysburg College students have applied for Global Grant Scholarships, Erica Lynn and Edith Tea. Shannon recommended that we endorse them to the district committee. She will ask both to speak at club meetings that fit their schedule. (Hoch, Geesey, unanimous)
  • Dictionaries are in. Sandra is scheduling distribution with schools. Alex will bring dictionaries to Wednesday meeting for labeling.
  • Four-way test essay contest information has been sent to schools.
