Students of the Month

PfistererPfisterer, Nickey Sept. 2021 Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg serving New Oxford monthly recognizes high school seniors from New Oxford and Bermudian Springs high schools based on academic achievement, school leadership, extra-curricular involvement, community service and character.

The students recognized in September are Elizabeth Pfisterer from New Oxford High School and Amber Nickey from Bermudian Springs High School.

Pfisterer was presented by Lauren LaBarca, faculty sponsor

Pfisterer is a member of the National Honor Society as well as a member of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. She is a decorated member of the Speech and Debate team and plays the violin in the school orchestra.

For five years, Pfisterer participated in cross country and track as a long distance runner. Teachers describe Pfisterer as a curious and motivated learner. She also writes for the school newspaper.

Pfisterer plans to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point to study social sciences. She is the daughter of Stephen and Victoria Pfisterer.

Amber Nickey was presented by Kim Robinson, faculty sponsor

Nickey is a member of the National Honor Society, National Arts Honor Society and the student council. She plays soccer in the position of striker and does pole vaulting in track.

Nickey’s teachers describe her as an inquisitive learner, a creative individual and a critical thinker. She has a personal motivation to succeed and is known as a quiet leader who leads by example.

Nickey is a kind, friendly, and compassionate person who is respectful to all and wants to help others. She plans to study criminal justice with the goal of going to law school.

She is the daughter of Matt and Sarah Nickey.
