John Kramb (pictured above in an undated photo) gave a detailed explanation of the different funds that Rotarians can donate to as a way of supporting both our local club, our district and Rotary International. The four foundation funds are how we Rotarians pay for our good works in our communities and in the world.
The annual fund sits in a bank account for three years. After the third year, half of the money goes to the World Fund for Peace Scholarships and global grants. The other half is returned to the district in the form of District Designated Funds (DDF, and is used primarily for club projects. Donations to this fund count towards Paul Harris awards.
Donations to the PolioPlus Fund are used to fund Rotary's efforts to eliminate Polio in the world. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches our donation 2:1, making your $1.00 donation actually worth $3.00. Donations to this fund count towards Paul Harris awards.
The Benevolent Fund is funded by cash donations, stock, property, and IRA contributions. It is a permanent fund, and the interest from it is returned to the district for our use.
The newly developed Disaster Relief Fund allows district to apply for once-a-year funding of efforts to relieve disasters, and can be in an amount up to $25,000. Donations to this fund count towards Paul Harris awards.
The highly accredited rating group of Charity Navigator rates the Rotary Foundation as a top performer. According to Charity Navigator 92% of the money donated to the annual fund comes back for use in projects. You can set up donations on your credit card at My Rotary. If you have questions, contact Mike Hanson or John Kramb.
