Gettysburg Rotary Club Member Brad Lancaster from Gettysburg College presented his boss and the 15th President of Gettysburg College, Robert Iuliano as our featured guest and speaker at today’s meeting. Iuliano, who has been in the position of president for approximately seven months gave a detailed overview of his impressions of the college, its students, faculty and Gettysburg to Rotary Club members and guests in attendance.
“Gettysburg College is not a small liberal arts college we are a perfect-sized liberal arts college that is a very special place due to our community, our students and our faculty,” said Iuliano.
Iuliano, came to the Gettysburg College after a long and illustrious career of 25 years at Harvard University where he most recently served as senior vice president, general counsel and Deputy to the President of Harvard University, he is a native of Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Virginia School of Law.
Iuliano said he was excited to come to such a strong community such as Gettysburg and he could see from his first visit people in the community take pride in their community. Iuliano sees the current students at Gettysburg College as “Pragmatic Idealists” and said the college is all about its students. He said he was proud of the incredible participation of the underclassmen during the week-long orientation of freshman and new students at the college. He stated that higher education is an ever evolving part of the world and Gettysburg College will need to re-think their curriculum as a whole to adapt to our changing world. He noted that the students enrolled in colleges today are our future leaders and we must instill in them the skills and instincts to make the world a better place.
