Happy Bucks
  • Gary Rappoldt gave one dollar for winning the 50/50 and the other for various team wins over the weekend, including the Capitals hockey team.
  • Peter Miele had two good reasons to be happy. $5 for a great Thanksgiving holiday and another $5 because the retirement party for Brad Hoch will be held at the Seminary Ridge Museum
  • Mike Hanson also had two good reasons to be happy and gave $5 for each: He has resigned from his duties at Lake Heritage and has taken a new job with the WWII American Experience Museum. This new venue opens in the spring on Mummasburg Road.
  • Fred Selak was happy about the University of Michigan winning the football game over Ohio State.
  • Jed Smith gave a dollar to exclaim the virtues of the Salvation Army and explain how the money collected in the buckets helps less-fortunate children to have clothes and school supplies. He was happy that Rotary helps by ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Wal Mart. (President Larry reminded us that Chris Glatfelter had sent an email looking for a few more volunteers to help with this effort).

Announcements
President Larry announced the following:
  • There will be a new member orientation on Wednesday evening and the new members have been informed.
  • Our club met our goal of $1,500 of giving for Polio Plus.
  • An email was sent to the club members asking for a response to attending the December 6th and December 13th meetings. A sign-up sheet was also distributed at the meeting. A count will be needed for meals at those meetings.
Anna-Mae is shown above with Ken Farabaugh, who attended the District Foundation Dinner and brought back the certificates for our club.
  • Anna-Mae Kobbe told us that our club was third in the District in overall giving to The Rotary Foundation. That is a pretty lofty recognition; considering that the only two clubs in our district that gave more were the York Club and the Harrisburg Club; they have hundreds of members!
  • Eric Gladhill announced that the Outbound Youth Exchange candidate from our club, Quentin Jurney, was interviewed and approved by the District Youth Exchange committee. The approval is provisional, due to his age and the fact that he has already graduated. He had been previously approved to study abroad but the pandemic had put that on pause until now. We hope to find out good news later regarding this student.
  • Chris Kimple announced, via Zoom, that she has been administering the District Grant for The Mercy House. She reported that about half of the funds have been spent on improvements to that facility.

Paul Harris Fellowships Awarded

Foundation Chair, Anna-Mae Kobbe, came to the podium and presented Fred Salek (pictured in the top photo with President Larry) with his first Paul Harris Fellowship. He received his pin and certificate.
She then called Peter Lagerberg (pictured in the bottom photo with President Larry) forward to receive his pin for his Paul Harris Plus 4 award. Another award is given for each $1,000 given to the Rotary Foundation.

Organizational Leadership Principles

President Larry, LTC Mark Hamis, and Peter Lagerberg are pictured above

Peter Lagerberg introduced our speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Hamis, from the War College in Carlisle, by telling us that he is originally from Nebraska, he has been married for 12 years and has two children. He has various master's degrees from all over.
Mark began his talk by giving a happy buck because he just found out that his aunt has been found clear of cancer!

His talk was about how to motivate people. He explained that people make connections and that most of our good memories of success were because of the connections that we made with other people.

The only difference between a good day and a bad day is our attitude. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we should be happy because we get to. . . We get to go to work, or be in Rotary, or do yoga. Not everyone is able to do those things.

Another great quote that he shared is, "Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.

He opened up the floor for questions and got quite a few inquires about what he does. He is assigned to the Space Force, which is a branch of the United States Air Force. The Space Force is almost two years old. His main job is to design, build, and launch satellites; for spying and navigation.
