Sgt. Mac Foundation Wreaths

President Bill helped to assemble the wreaths. Scott Wehler (not pictured) also helped with this effort.

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg took part on November 30 in the community effort in Gettysburg sponsored by the Sgt. Mac Foundation to place wreathes on the graves of Veterans.  The National Wreath Project has evolved to placing wreaths at the graves of Veterans at Quantico National Cemetery and Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In 2017, over 11,000 wreaths were placed at both cemeteries.  This year, a similar number were placed.

Dictionary Distribution
Every year, the Rotary Club of Gettysburg donates dictionaries to third grade students in Gettysburg area schools.
Rotarians Alex Hayes and Harry Hartman delivered the books to students at Saint Francis Xavier Roman Catholic School on Feb. 27.

On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, the U.S. came under attack when four commercial airliners were hijacked and used to strike targets on the ground. Nearly 3,000 people tragically lost their lives. Because of the heroic actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard one of the planes, Flight 93, the attack on the U.S. Capitol was thwarted.

On July 24, 2002, nine miners were trapped in the Quecreek Mine.  A five-day rescue ensued while the nation watched. The miraculous rescue effort was the stuff of dreams and legends. Mr. Bill Arnold, who lives on the site, was there and will tell the story. We will also tour the Visitor Center and visit the site of the rescue itself.

News
News and Announcement
On March 4, 2020, Mike Hanson, Deb Geesey and Eric Gladhill handed out dictionaries to the third-graders at Lincoln Elementary School in Gettysburg. The happy students are pictured above with Mike and Deb.
This was the only picture available, but the overall effort was great!

About 900 dictionaries were handed out to 12 elementary schools in our area. Many Rotarians were involved (sorry, no complete list could be readily obtained), all under the leadership of Sandy Leathery!
Big thanks to all who helped!
