Rowan Joseph, the Producing Artistic Director, for the Totem Pole Playhouse was our guest speaker and gave a detailed update on the many exciting shows taking place and coming to the Totem Pole during the next year. Joseph’s most important update to Rotarians was the Totem Pole Playhouse has come through their financial struggles of the past and is doing much better thanks to a tremendous amount of hard work by their board of directors and overwhelming support from the community. Joseph, who has been at the Totem Pole since 2013, said currently playing at the playhouse is Souvenir, a two person play that runs through July 28. Coming next to the theatre will be its largest person production in the history of the Totem Pole with 48 performers taking the stage in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This show runs from August 2-18. Rowan also told meeting attendees that once again a Christmas Carol will be performed at the Majestic Theater during the holiday season. Rowan took special pride in the fact that he was able to bring this holiday classic back to the Majestic Theater after many years of it being done in Chambersburg and that over 2,000 middle school students are able to attend the show each year free of charge. Next season the Totem Pole Playhouse will be celebrating its 70th anniversary and has some very special shows lined for that season including; On Golden Pond as its first show next year followed by the Sound of Music. Rowan came to the Totem Pole after an illustrious career in television, movies, on stage and also behind the camera and we are lucky to have him leading our theatre.
